Parowan details storage strategy, well rotations and grant push for emergency generators

Public Works Superintendent Aldo Biasi and City Manager Dan Jessen outlined several operational steps Parowan is taking to maintain water service during high summer demand and potential outages. Staff said storage tanks are being kept "one foot from the top" to maintain reserves for power outages or fire response, and the Main Canyon well has been activated for the season to meet heavy demand.

The Racetrack Well is currently pumping; staff plan to pipe it to waste this budget year for testing, then tie it into the 300 East line and place it in regular rotation by routing water to a nearby retention structure. On emergency power, Biasi confirmed procurement of two generators approved in the budget ("valued at over $100,000 each") with delivery lead times of about five to six months. Jessen said staff are pursuing grant funding—a county fire match plus a USDA grant being pursued by Biasi—with "the goal of acquiring both units at no direct cost to the city," citing recent preemptive power shutoffs by Rocky Mountain Power in the region as a reason to prioritize backups.
