The South Umpqua School District Board unanimously approved an out-of-state travel request for South Umpqua High School students to visit Grand Canyon University from December 5–7.
Shannon Fye presented the request and said, "She will be taking 7–9 students. The trip will be from December 5–7." Board member Jeff Johnson moved to approve the request; William Hill seconded and the motion carried 4–0 (Quinn Pickering and Randy Richardson absent). William Hill added that if more than 15 students participate, an additional chaperone must attend and the board concurred.
According to the presentation, students are expected to arrange transportation to the airport while Grand Canyon University will cover other trip expenses and provide campus dorm housing. Board members confirmed any senior meeting the stated requirements may attend. The approval was recorded as a formal action under the agenda and repeated as an action item with the same vote during the meeting.
