The Milton-Freewater Unified School District 7 budget committee voted unanimously May 18 to approve the district’s 2026–27 budget, authorizing a total district budget of $38,768,600 and a general fund tax rate of $4.7953 per $1,000 of assessed value.
Superintendent Aaron Duff delivered the budget message to the committee and described the fiscal context for the proposal. "Much like the state as a whole, our district is experiencing a decline in student enrollment," Duff said, and he described staffing adjustments and other measures included in the budget to align resources to current enrollment levels. Denyce Kelly then presented the formal motion with line-item totals and levy recommendations.
The motion presented for committee approval set the General Fund budget at $26,427,600; Special Revenue funds at $7,693,000; Debt Service at $3,398,000; and Capital Projects at $1,250,000, for the $38,768,600 total. The committee also adopted levy amounts as presented: General Fund at $4.7953/$1,000, Local Option at zero, and General Obligation Bond levy of $1,010,000 for debt service on GO bonds. Stacie Lieuallen moved to approve the budget as presented, Tim McElrath seconded, and the committee vote was recorded as unanimously approved.
The budget hearing was adjourned at 7:20 p.m. and the district will present the adopted budget to the Milton-Freewater Unified School District 7 board at its regular meeting on June 15, 2026, for school board approval.
