Board approves extra contact day for 2026–27 school year

The South Umpqua School District Board of Directors voted to revise the 2026–27 instructional calendar to add an additional student/teacher contact day on Sept. 4, 2026. William Hill moved the calendar change and Jeff Johnson seconded; the motion carried 4–0 with Randy Richardson and Anandita Tiwari recorded absent.
Director of Teaching and Learning Ryan Savage told the board the extra day is required to meet the district's 192-day licensed contract requirement. The board approved the change during the April 1 meeting; the revised calendar will govern the 2026–27 school year.
