County engineer reports progress on Bernardo Road, bridge beam delivery and CHBP grant submission

Jaden of the county engineer's office told supervisors on July 28 that Bernardo Road paving is near completion (shoulder work and intersection core‑out planned next week) and that crews will place rumble strips and pavement markings near the close of the project.

He said Channel Worth bridge beam deliveries were delayed because of river conditions but were scheduled for later in the week and described the complexity of placing 120‑foot beams (requiring temporary access and cranes). Jaden also noted that the CHBP grant that included the Morehead bridge and a related project was submitted over the weekend and that award determinations are expected by the end of September; in the meantime, project development should continue.

Jaden reported additional routine work, including reclaim crews in the Preston/Green Island area and ongoing grading and culvert work. He said the county appears to have enough contract days remaining for current work and flagged that the river's higher flow this season could affect schedules.
