Board told $2,000 across‑the‑board raise would create roughly $1.3M deficit
Summary
Presenter Jennifer Fleming said an across‑the‑board $2,000 salary increase plus step increases would produce an approximate $1,300,000 deficit for FY2627 based on current projections; she outlined targeted adjustments and retiree step changes as potential savings.

Jennifer Fleming told the board that applying a proposed $2,000 increase to every salary schedule line combined with step increases would create a material budget gap. "If we are going to provide the proposed $2,000 increase to every sale on every salary schedule and give employees the step increase for next year, then I'm projecting us to have a deficit of approximately 1,300,000 for next year," Fleming said.
Fleming reviewed that much of the district's salary schedule already meets or exceeds state minimums and that focusing increases only on lower steps could reduce costs. She also presented options for negotiating retiree salaries: moving returning retirees to step 20 could save an estimated $100,000; moving them to step 10 could save about $250,000. No final decision was made; the board agreed to address compensation options at a future budget workshop.
