Greenwood 52's Wildcat Marching Band celebrated its fourth straight South Carolina Band Directors Association (SCBDA) 1A state championship at Monday's board meeting, where band members received commemorative rings and the director recounted the season's travel and performance schedule. The band scored 84.15 in preliminaries and 84.95 in finals, which the band director said secured the state title and multiple awards including high visual and high overall effect.
"Today is about celebrating your commitment to marching band and your latest state championship," the band director said, thanking administrators, parents and booster volunteers for logistical and fundraising support. The director described long trips, early call times and a blown tractor-trailer tire that required fundraising help and noted the program's long record: "'96 has 13 state championships...we have been a top 3 medalist since 2006,'" highlighting a multi-decade history of competitive success. Board members were invited to a short reception and photos in the middle school band room while the meeting continued.
