Mrs. Lance told the committee that the current wiring keeps power feeding auditorium lights and that installing relays and a control board would allow the district to shut power off and extend the life of power supplies and fixtures. "So if we would install these light relays, then we could shut the power off and would it would extend the life of the lights," she said, noting replacement requires rental lifts and is costly.
A facilities staff member clarified the board controls lighting only and does not run audio systems. "The control board is just for the lighting... it has nothing to do with audio," the staffer said, answering a board question about whether a master board would also run sound. The committee asked staff to include the lighting-control work in pricing requests returned to the board.
