Board urged to expedite pool UV-light repairs to reduce chemical use before swim season
Summary
District staff told the board the high-school pool UV light is not working; an older master-plan cost estimate listed $32,000, and members urged staff to find current pricing and consider earlier replacement because a functioning UV light reduces chemical treatment needs.

Mrs. Lance told committee members the high-school UV light used for pool sanitation is not working and said replacing it would reduce chemical use. "Currently the U.V. Light is not working. So what that means is if we replace this, it'll allow the district to experience cost savings in chemicals to treat the pool," she said. Mrs. Lance added the master plan previously included a cost estimate but staff will need updated pricing.
Board members pressed for timing ahead of swim season and for specifics about whether the system needs a lamp replacement or a full fixture/control replacement. One member noted, "the light kills the microbes and that greatly reduces the amount of chemicals needed," reinforcing why members favored getting pricing and a recommendation to the full board soon.
