Raton report: i‑Ready moving students out of 'red' but district to adopt new formative assessments next year

At the May 11 meeting, Justin Mattorano reported on assessment performance and instructional planning for the coming year, saying RIS is making progress toward moving students out of the lowest performance category on i‑Ready but that more work is needed to get students into the green.
Mattorano cautioned that "i‑Ready is not considered a strong predictor of student performance on the State Assessment administered in the spring," and said the district will implement formative assessments next year from the same company that creates the State Assessments to better support instructional planning and preparation. The board heard the change is intended to provide stronger alignment between interim classroom data and the annual State Assessment.
No formal action was taken on the assessment plan at the meeting; administration said they will proceed with implementation planning and keep the board informed.
