The Raton Board of Education voted May 11 to approve the district’s 2026–27 budget pending any changes from the New Mexico Public Education Department. Ted Kamp moved to approve the budget and Dustin Walton seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
Myra Baird outlined the budget highlights presented to the board: "The District's Revenue Sources total $14,808,014.98," she said, and noted that 79% of that revenue is allocated for salaries and benefits. Baird also reported an increase in unit value of $240 and an anticipated 9.95% increase in health insurance premiums. She said the district will prepare a District ICIP to remain eligible for Legislative Capital Outlay and Capital Improvement projects.
The board approved the budget pending any NMPED adjustments; the minutes record no amendments or recorded dissent. Fiscal details will be finalized after any state changes and will be reflected in subsequent fiscal reports.
