The Springfield Board of Education on Jan. 5 swore in newly elected members and chose leadership for 2026, appointing Meredith Murphy as board president and Tracey M. Rinaldi as vice president. "To appoint Meredith Murphy for the office of President of the Springfield Board of Education for the 2026 calendar year," the board secretary announced before a roll call that returned unanimous affirmative votes for Murphy's appointment.
The motion to appoint Rinaldi as vice president was moved by Jennifer Wishna and seconded by Laura Gamarekian; the roll call recorded one abstention by Tracey M. Rinaldi and otherwise affirmative votes, resulting in the appointment. The swearing-in and officer elections followed certification of the Jan. 2026 reorganizational agenda and concluded without further challenge. The meeting record shows the board proceeded to approve additional reorganization items and committee assignments after the officer votes.
