After approving the contract, board members and GLS discussed immediate next steps: GLS said it would post a short notice that the superintendent position is open and then meet with the board to finalize the job description, salary comparison data and timeline. The board said it expected a signed contract within about two weeks and that GLS would begin recruiting once the agreement was executed.
"I heard them say is that they would put the notice out immediately that just said that there's a vacancy in Vernonia, that we're looking for a superintendent, and that the details about the job will come later," a board member said, describing GLS's initial posting plan as a "save the date." The board tentatively set the first planning session for the week of March 16โ20, with March 18 at 5:30 p.m. identified as the first-choice date to review posting language and schedule the closed-session review of applicants.
Board members said they would accommodate school conference days and early releases when scheduling finalist visits and interview days; GLS stressed it could tailor the finalist day to include a tour, mixed interview teams and time for board interviews.
