Board hears plan to clarify concessions money after $16,000 balance tied to transition program
Summary
Board members probed why concession proceeds appear to total about $16,000; superintendent said the funds are earmarked for the district transition (life-skills) program and administrators will relabel accounts and develop systems so concession proceeds benefit specific teams and programs equitably.

During the financial discussion, board members questioned why the concessions account showed a large balance (approximately $16,000) and whether athletics or the district’s transition program should receive those funds.
Superintendent (S2) said the $16,000 is earmarked for the transition (life-skills) program and that the district’s model has shifted: transition students now earn funds through a coffee cart, balloon club and recycling rather than running concessions. He said athletic event concession profits have sometimes flowed into operating accounts and that the district is developing clearer systems so individual teams or booster clubs can be assigned specific events and accounts.
"That $16,000 with the exception of there was a couple times where we split YTP and sports, that is earmarked directly for transition students in special education program," Superintendent (S2) said, adding the district will relabel accounts to reduce confusion and work with boosters to establish volunteer-run shifts so proceeds go where intended.
Board members urged clearer labeling, suggested creating a dedicated athletic fundraising account for specific purposes (e.g., new gym signage), and recommended involving boosters and staff to set transparent practices. Administration said it will revise account labels and return recommended procedures to the board.
