Mister Costanzo (S5), who coaches or supervises the district robotics program, told the board the team of about nine middle- and high-school students went 5–0 in qualifications at the Hillsboro qualifier and was the captain of an alliance in elimination rounds.
"We wound up being 2 points away from going directly to state," Mister Costanzo said. The team lost a close elimination match because of a driving error that incurred penalty points, he said. The group qualified for the Spark Invitational in Philomath — a two-day second-chance tournament — and will have another opportunity to reach state.
Costanzo provided names of student contributors and noted the team built a fully custom robot this year after starting with a kit last season. Board members congratulated the students and encouraged community attendance at the Philomath event on the announced dates.
