The Vernonia SD 47J board voted to set the district’s student interdistrict transfer limit at three students per grade for the 2026–27 school year.
"I move to set the student transfer limits to 3 per grade level for '26–27 as discussed," moved Committee member (S6) during the action portion of the meeting. The motion was seconded, the chair called the vote and the motion carried by voice vote.
Superintendent (S2) explained the transfer-limit policy gives the district discretion to manage class sizes at the elementary level, where capacity pressures commonly arise. Board members said the limit is a standard one used previously by the district and provides clear guidance for staff who process interdistrict requests.
The board noted the limit is a management tool to protect instructional quality and will be applied with standard exceptions already provided under state rules.
Administration will incorporate the limit into the 2026–27 enrollment guidance and publish the updated transfer form and criteria.
