District staff opened the meeting with a review of the Smart Schools Bond Act and said the Eden Central School District intends to use the program to supplement classroom technology budgets.
"Smart School Bond Act was established in 2014, and it was $2,000,000,000 for schools to use to improve educational technology or high level high-tech security," a district staff member said, noting that the program reimburses actual expenditures and that the district will post the plan for 30 days of public review before submitting it to the State Education Department (SED). Staff emphasized that the dollar figures presented are estimates and that the district is planning two to three years ahead to avoid surprises in pricing.
The district said there is no capital project associated with the planned purchases and that the reimbursement structure should permit a faster SED review. Officials invited written and phone comments during the 30-day posting period and said the district would incorporate feedback before filing with SED.
