The Laurens Central School District Board approved the district's Corrective Action Plan in response to the external audit and the auditor's management letter dated Jan. 16, 2026. The management-letter items cited the district's unassigned fund balance exceeding the 4% legal limit, the need for a written reserve plan to be posted annually, recommendations on timing of budget transfers, concerns about the school lunch fund deficit and interfund payables, and a recommendation to document key financial processes. The district's written response, signed by Superintendent William F. Dorritie, acknowledges the items and sets near-term actions, including posting the Reserve Plan by April 2026.
The response letter states, "The District is aware of the excess fund balance. We are currently reviewing our Reserve Plan to help address excess funds." It also reports that accounting recording errors in the School Lunch fund have been identified and corrected going forward. The board formally accepted the corrective action plan as part of consent/new business during the meeting.
