The Helix School Board approved the high school ski club’s out-of-state trips to Bluewood, Washington, on Jan. 12, Feb. 2, Feb. 9 and Feb. 23 (motion by Friday Bracher; seconded by Bobby Corey). Superintendent Brad Bixler told the board about 30 students expressed interest in skiing this year and board approval was required because the trips cross state lines.
In student activities, ASB representatives reported the Hoop! There It Is fundraiser raised about $1,500 — the most the ASB has collected in recent fundraisers — and that the group plans a hockey trip in the winter. Athletic Director Tammie Parker said middle school basketball will finish this weekend and high school league play has begun; she requested volunteers and said the program urgently needs a shot-clock operator for an upcoming weekend game. Parker said the district is excited to host a tournament this weekend.
The board approved the trips and thanked student leaders and staff for fundraising and for arranging travel. The administration will provide trip rosters, chaperone plans and any out-of-state permission forms to the board as required.
