Helix SD 1 presents $6.07 million proposed budget for 2026–27

Brad Bixler presented the Helix School District's proposed budget for the 2026–27 school year at the April 28 budget committee meeting. "The proposed budget has $6,071,302 in budgeted resources for the 2026-27 school year," Bixler said, adding the budget reflects an estimated $1,498,000 beginning fund balance and a $500,000 cash carryover from 2025-26.
Kara Taylor of IMESD reviewed the General Revenue Fund and Special Revenue Funds, noting several significant line-item realignments. Taylor identified issues in athletic salaries and recommended the committee identify areas where expenses could be lowered to address those discrepancies. She also asked that the Arts and Band budgets be separated and said she would circulate a revised document with the committee's requested adjustments highlighted.
Committee members asked clarifying questions during review and the committee recorded that no public comment was offered. The committee proceeded to a formal motion on taxes and total operations after the budget presentation.
