The Helix School Board voted to adopt new social studies curricula after a recommendation from the district’s Social Studies Adoption Committee. Committee member Dustin Curtiss presented the elementary committee’s top choice and said the Gibbs Smith elementary materials were “most similar to what he is currently teaching,” while the committee recommended McGraw Hill materials for middle and high school instruction. The board approved the adoption motions, which carried unanimously.
Board members said the new materials are intended to provide a well‑rounded social studies experience across grades; the administration will finalize purchase orders and implementation timelines with staff and vendors this spring and summer.
