The Helix School Board approved creation of a PR/media coordinator extra-duty position at its Oct. 8 meeting, trustees said in meeting minutes. The position is intended to centralize and increase the district's public communications capacity: duties listed include social-media management, photography and video, press releases, event promotion and coordination with staff and community partners.
Superintendent Brad Bixler told the board he is "considering adding a PR media position to our staff" and that he will work with Athletic Director Tammie Parker to develop a job description. The proposed position description in the packet names responsibilities such as managing digital platforms, documenting school events and producing newsletters and press materials. The board voted to add an extra-duty stipend and to move forward with developing the position details and job posting.
Administrators said the intent is to capture and share student and staff highlights, support outreach for events like the Homecoming and Community Feed, and help the district's small staff maintain a steady public presence without adding ongoing instructional duties to current staff.
