Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Matt Yoshioka presented three policy updates during the Feb. 3 work session: IIBG (Responsible Use of Technology), IKJ (Artificial Intelligence), and LBEA (Denial for Virtual Public Charter School Student Enrollment). According to the presentation, the IIBG update "recognizes the need for equitable access and responsible use of technology in our schools," and the IKJ proposal "shows district support for the use of artificial intelligence in schools." The LBEA revision was described as clarifying the process when the resident district denies enrollment in a virtual public charter school.
Board members asked questions about each policy and Mr. Yoshioka "answered the Board’s questions about each policy" as part of the first-reading process. Because these were first readings, the board did not take formal votes on the policies during the work session; further review is expected before any adoption vote.
