The Seaside School District 10 budget committee approved the district's proposed 2026–27 budget and forwarded the document to the school board for final adoption.
Board member Brian moved to approve the budget as presented, reading the fund totals into the record: “General fund, $31,521,115. Special revenue fund, $6,451,983. Debt service fund, 7,702,668. Capital project fund, 1,531,445. All total funds, 47,207,311 … with a tax rate of 4.7745 per thousand of assessed value.” The motion was seconded and carried on a roll‑call vote of committee members present; committee members recorded their votes as yes during the roll call.
Why it matters: the committee vote sends the formal budget package to the Seaside School District board for adoption before the fiscal year starts. The committee discussion highlighted tradeoffs between preserving contingency reserves and funding one‑time capital needs; the committee also discussed potential impacts if a pending local option levy does not pass.
The proposal includes a $31.52 million general fund and an estimated $5.9 million bond levy for debt service. Committee members noted the budget assumes using part of reserves this year (a planned deficit drawdown) and that a supplemental budget would be required if the local option levy fails after the election. The board will consider the package in a public meeting before July 1 under the statutory timeline.
