Killeen ISD proposes Code of Conduct changes that would add AI-enabled glasses to prohibited items

Micah Wells presented proposed revisions to the 2026–2027 Student Code of Conduct intended to improve clarity, consistency and enforceability across the district. Wells highlighted updates to prohibited items—"adding headphones, and AI-enabled glasses to prohibited or regulated items"—technology use, transportation, DAEP placement, expulsions, and the progressive discipline matrix.

Trustees engaged in extensive discussion over dress code enforcement and whether removing language about hair grooming would unintentionally lower expectations; some members emphasized maintaining professional standards to prepare students for careers while others urged sensitivity to cultural differences and family circumstances. Wells explained the revisions would give campus administrators greater discretion in some disciplinary situations (including fights) and shift certain DAEP placement responsibilities to principals while retaining existing grievance and appeals processes.

Trustees requested clearer communication to families, stronger enforcement mechanisms, and continued refinement before final Board approval. No final vote on the code was recorded during the workshop; staff will return with refined language and additional clarifications.
