District Administrator Mark Stamper had presented cost comparisons during the administrative report, saying contracting busing services would cost about $439 per route per day compared with the district's current cost of $250 per route per day. Board member Kim Dachel asked whether the district would consider consolidating some routes next year; President Ted Alberson said route consolidation could create excessively long rides because of the large geographic area the buses must cover.
The hiring motion followed routine approvals earlier in the meeting and was moved and seconded by board members on the floor. The board did not take immediate steps to alter existing routing; discussion focused on cost trade-offs and ride time rather than a specific consolidation plan.
