Village awards $652,503 MFT resurfacing contract to D Construction

The Village of Steger Board of Trustees on May 4 awarded the 2026 Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) resurfacing contract to D Construction, Inc., the lowest responsive bidder, for a total contract price of $652,503.30.

Village Engineer Melanie Arnold told the board that the bid opening produced four bidders and that "the lowest responsible bidder was D Construction, so tonight under board action we do have a recommendation that you would award to them for a total of $652,503.30." Arnold said the work will cover about 6,000 feet of roadway, listing Kings Road; the 3200–3300 blocks of Florence Avenue; Hereford Drive; the alleys adjacent to Chicago Road between 34th Place and 35th Street; the 3600 block of Green Street; and 35th Street between Loverock and Dorsetshire.

The engineer's estimate for the project had been about $775,000; Arnold told trustees that the low bid came in roughly $125,000 under that estimate. Clerk Zagone read the four bids during the meeting: Iroquois Paving Corp. — $765,807.75; Gallagher Asphalt Corp. — $704,012.50; D Construction, Inc. — $652,503.30; and K Five Construction Corp. — $735,426.60.

Trustee Thurmond made the motion to award the contract to D Construction and Trustee Hanus seconded; the motion passed by roll call with all trustees voting aye. The board did not amend the contract award at the meeting and authorized staff to proceed with contracting and scheduling.

The award follows the Village Administrator’s earlier notice that the board would consider the MFT award at this meeting. The engineer also noted an inspection of the elevated tank near the baseball fields is scheduled for the next morning at no cost to the village.
