Council hears animal-control septic problem; mayor seeks land transfer to enable repairs

The Cherokee Village City Council on April 9 heard that the Animal Control facility is experiencing septic-system failure and discussed near-term repairs and possible relocation options.

Megan Mansfield of Animal Control read a statement about the failing septic system at the facility and the need for prompt action. Council Member Thompson suggested notifying septic contractor Danny Taylor as an emergency contact and seeking a second bid to check the other tanks and confirm whether the initial work was completed to code.

Mayor Rose said he had spoken with SID Chairman Brent Hunstad about the possibility of transferring or gifting land around the Animal Control site to the city to provide additional space to repair or install a new septic system. The mayor also noted the city is currently mowing and maintaining the land in question.

The council did not take a formal vote to fund the repair during the meeting but instructed staff and council members to pursue additional bids and options for site work and septic replacement. No dollar amounts or firm timelines were provided during the discussion; procurement and contracting steps were described as "to be pursued."
