Design changes advance for Flatonia ISD administration building; board told January 2026 target start

Architect Wade Zimmer of SZS and project representative Abigail Russa presented updated plans for Flatonia ISD's new administration building, which are now in the design and development phase. Zimmer said the building has been repositioned closer to the corner of E. 4th Street and S. Converse Street, and "the retention pond has been decreased in size and will be positioned directly behind the trash dumpster." He also said the board seating area in the meeting room is planned to be raised about a foot for better visibility.

Zimmer told the superintendent a paper set of plans was provided for review and that color samples for a preferred metal roof will be supplied; he said everything is ready to move forward and that a new construction plan was sent out the same day. He indicated the plan will need board approval at the next regular meeting to keep the schedule on track to start around Jan. 1, 2026. Board members asked about roof materials and color options; Zimmer said a metal roof is preferred for quality and cost, and SZS will provide options for review.
