Okemah Board approves multiple one-year temporary teaching and paraprofessional hires; accepts resignation

After an executive session on personnel, the board unanimously hired Cody Bennett, Laura Mason, Darin Duncan, Penelope Martin and Kimberly Babb on one-year temporary contracts for 2026–2027, and accepted the resignation of Micah Taylor.
Following an executive session on personnel matters, the Okemah Board of Education returned to open session and unanimously approved several personnel actions on Aug. 10, 2026.
The board voted to hire Cody Bennett as a certified Upper Elementary teacher, Laura Mason as an Upper Elementary/Middle School Special Education teacher, and Darin Duncan as a certified high school teacher — each on a one-year temporary contract for the 2026–2027 school year. The board also approved temporary paraprofessional hires for Penelope Martin and Kimberly Babb in elementary special education. The board accepted the resignation of Micah Taylor. All actions were approved by recorded motions from J.C. Haddox with seconds from Randy Colbert (and Gina Brandt in one case), each passing 5–0.
