Students, staff ask how programs and teachers would transition if schools change

Students and school staff used a portion of the meeting to press for concrete transition planning in any scenario that moves programs or campuses.

Student speakers raised concerns about whether cherished programs and the teachers who run them would continue if a school were consolidated or re‑zoned. One student asked bluntly whether "my favorite teacher" would move with their program and urged the district to provide clear transition road maps. Staff and trustees acknowledged the concern and said program‑by‑program transition scenarios — staffing, schedules, transportation and facilities adjustments — would have to be modeled before any consolidation recommendations are made.

Trustees and SLT discussed portability questions for programs that require special schedules or facilities (for example, IB course loads, magnet scheduling, or specialized athletics). SLT noted some facilities requirements (bathrooms, specialized rooms) and staffing rules (special‑education placements determined by IEPs) constrain simple relocation. Trustees asked staff to show scenario models and staffing analyses for proposed changes so the board and public can evaluate program continuity.
