The board recognized Haylie Cole as this year’s Quinn Scholarship recipient and praised her academic work and leadership. Mr. Lazar described Haylie as a "quiet servant" who volunteers and takes accelerated coursework; Haylie said she is taking college‑level writing and Calculus I and II and plans to attend the University of Oregon and pursue nursing.
Haylie described lessons learned about seeking help: "I would tell students to not be afraid to ask for help," she said. The meeting also featured an educational spotlight on the SES Post Office program. Sabrina Kent explained the program began around 1982 at Gates Elementary (created by Melody Munger and Cathy Griswold) to support early writing skills; the program now includes preschool and high‑school student helpers and continues the practice of stamping student letters. Students Kenny Allison and Sam Anderson presented each board member with letters, and the board applauded the long‑running program.
Haylie also outlined Doernbecher fundraising: the school’s goal is $10,000 this year, and about $3,500 had been raised in the first three days, with the culminating assembly set for March 19 at 9:30 a.m.
