School leaders updated the board on family engagement and student activities at the Nov. 13 meeting.
Principal Nicole Coyle reported McNary Heights Elementary had 88% conference attendance; Vice Principal Megan Lorence said conferences went well and highlighted FAB Friday and spirit activities. Columbia Vista Intermediate Principal Tim Young reported 72% attendance and a Thanksgiving Feast with more than 100 tickets sold. Clara Brownell Middle School Principal Rick Cotterell reported 63 families attended conferences. At Umatilla High School, Principal Bob Lorence highlighted recognition of fall athletes, noting the girls' soccer team won a league championship (first since 2014) and student-athlete Abraham Garcia was selected first-team goalie in soccer and second-team kicker in football.
The board publicly recognized staff and community members for support at Think Big Day, Red Ribbon Week, and hearing screenings. Business Manager Kim Gilsdorf noted bond funds are getting low as construction nears completion, which she said is expected and indicates projects are coming to completion.
