Umatilla district plans Think BIG Space relaunch with Amazon; neighbors' light complaints prompt mitigation
Summary
Superintendent Heidi Sipe reported facility work at the new middle school CTE building, an upcoming official relaunch of the Think BIG Space in January with an Amazon partnership and Robotics kickoff, and neighbor complaints about soccer-field lighting that the district will mitigate by adding shields and offering blinds to adjacent homes where budget allows.

The Umatilla School District reported progress on several facilities items at its Nov. 13 meeting, including work at the new middle school CTE building and an upcoming relaunch of the Think BIG Space.
Superintendent Heidi Sipe said revisions at the new middle school CTE building are "incredible" and described a recent meeting with Amazon regarding the district's Think BIG Space. The district plans an official relaunch in January to coincide with a Robotics kick-off. No contract or financial details with Amazon were included in the minutes.
Neighbors near the new soccer field raised concerns about light intruding on nearby homes. The district will place shields around some parking-lot lights and has offered to purchase blinds for homes that share a property line with the school; one additional neighbor asked for blinds but Superintendent Sipe said the district's budget did not allow for extending the offer beyond the initial homes. Board Member Steve Warr asked about budget and expenditure estimates; Superintendent Sipe said she would bring cost information to the next meeting.
