Staff reported increased public and athletic use of the district pool (995 open-swim participants, up from 878 the prior period) and highlighted heavy summer use by football, track and wrestling teams for conditioning and recovery. Staff noted strong day-to-day operations by pool operators and suggested exploring additional lifeguard training and a potential "friends of the pool" support group. "A significant increase in the community engagement with 995 individuals participating in open swim," staff said during the presentation.
Board members and staff discussed the primary operational constraint: lifeguard availability. Staff proposed collaboration with a neighboring facility to expand lifeguard capacity and suggested adding an automated external defibrillator (AED) near the pool as a precaution. The board asked staff to bring back specific recommendations and budget estimates at a future meeting.
