County engineer reports two bridge openings, plans resolution to handle new state speed-limit law

Jaden Scheffel of the county engineer's office told supervisors that the 360 2nd Avenue and the 458th Avenue bridge replacements are complete and open to traffic, and outlined near-term construction activity such as beam setting on another project. "The 360 2nd Avenue bridge replacement is complete and is open to traffic as of last Wednesday," Scheffel said, describing the work and design criteria that were met.

Scheffel then summarized implications of a recent state law that affects default speed limits and said the county will prepare a resolution listing roads for evaluation so engineering studies can determine whether speeds should change. He described planned use of a ball-bank indicator to assess curves, coordination with Clinton County and the DOT, and said some restriping and signage costs could be deferred to the next annual restriping cycle. Board members raised concern about unfunded costs and the timeline for local evaluations; Scheffel said formal road-by-road studies would likely occur later in the year.
