A policies committee composed of principals, assistant principals and other staff reviewed the student code of conduct and recommended a set of revisions that the board approved tonight. The committee highlighted specific additions and clarifications: a disclaimer at the top of a page, language about personal headphones, a new section and penalties for disrupting drills, a new definition and consequences for hitting/kicking/pushing staff, expanded language describing mimicking illegal activities and additional clarity for primary/elementary consequences.
"This is a yearly requirement due to the Safe Schools Act that we take a look at it and reevaluate it and have it approved by you guys," the policies presenter said when introducing the changes. The board voted in favor of adopting the revised code as presented; a clean copy and a highlighted copy were provided to members in the packet.
