Raton Board accepts near‑clean audit for 2024–25 school year

The Raton Board of Education voted 4–0 to accept the district’s 2024–2025 audit after a presentation by Byron and Chris Manning of Manning & Associates.
Byron Manning described the audit process and noted that in his years of conducting audits only two schools had ever received reports with no findings; he said Raton’s "audit was among the best he had completed this year." The acceptance followed a motion by Board Member Ted Kamp and a second from Board Member Dustin Walton.
Board members then approved related financial items—budget adjustments and the district’s 2nd Quarter Cash Report—after auditors and business staff confirmed the timing of reports. The Financial Report and related transfers were approved on a 4–0 vote.
The approval clears a procedural hold that had delayed the cash report’s presentation; Business Administrator Myra Baird told the board the quarter report was late because the district waited for the audit to be accepted. The board adjourned at 7:14 p.m.
