Commission approves temporary Main Street closure for Little Consignment20th-anniversary celebration

The Chanute City Commission on June 22 approved a request to temporarily close portions of Main Street for a 20-year celebration hosted by Little Consignment.

Amy Sehorn, identified in the agenda as the owner of Little Consignment, told the commission she had consulted nearby businesses and asked that the north and south sides of Main Street be blocked from Lincoln eastward on July 11 from about 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The event is scheduled to run from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and will feature food trucks, outside vendors and activities. Sehorn said earlier owners Cassie Cleaver and Cora Finley had run the business before she took it over in 2024.

Commissioners voted to approve the street closure by voice vote after staff clarified that vendors must obtain city licensing and special-event permits, that the parks department will coordinate trash cans and tables, and that signage and barricades will be posted the night before the event. City staff told the applicant to work with the community development team to submit a vendor list for permitting and licensing.

The action was approved with no financial or legal implications listed on the agenda; staff will implement the logistical details and ensure vendors meet licensing requirements before the event.
