Mrs. Ames presented the Period 11 pilot at Penn Yan Middle School, explaining the program ran from 2:30 to 3:00 and required students who fell below a 70% threshold to attend academic support for at least two weeks of each five-week cycle. She said participation varied by cycle and grade and called the pilot a promising targeted intervention.
Ames provided cycle counts: for the final three cycles (March, April, May) 6th grade counts were 9, 14, and 10; 7th grade counts were 9, 15, and 13; and 8th grade counts were 13, 14, and 11. In the May cycle 34 students were enrolled in Period 11 and 18 of those students passed with the support of the pilot program, a result Ames characterized as meaningful evidence the intervention helped students recover course performance.
