Board hears update on effort to shift district funds to independent banking

The board received an update on efforts to transition Whitehall School District funds to independent banking. Alyssa reported Jefferson County's treasurer had outstanding questions because Whitehall would be the first district in the county to pursue independent banking. The board previously approved a resolution in November to explore the change.
Alyssa said staff and a consultant contacted Office of Public Instruction staff for guidance and that administrative rules and Montana Code Annotated provisions relevant to independent banking were identified. She noted other districts in the state have completed the transition after county attorney review and approval by county commissioners.
The board did not vote on the item at this meeting; Alyssa offered to provide the referenced MCA/administrative-rule list to trustees and to share additional documentation as requested.
