A staff member from Whitehall School District said teachers are planning a full slate of field trips this year and have written grants to cover transportation costs, which have been increasing. "They're able to, write some grants to cover our transportation costs, which continue to go up and up," the staff member said, adding that grant funding allows the district to run the planned trips within budget.
The staff member listed destinations by grade — including Exploration Works in Helena, the Museum of the Rockies, Lewis & Clark Caverns, Buffalo Jump archaeology day, Bear Creek and Piedmont Pond for older elementary students — and praised teachers for leveraging local amenities and funding to maintain opportunities for students.
