Cindy Mullen, representing the 21st Century program, briefed the board on program operations and staffing needs as the federal grant enters its second year of the cycle and a federal monitoring year.
“My name is Cindy Mullen,” she said, opening her twice‑yearly update, and described a rough start after July 1 amid federal budget uncertainty and state‑level changes. She said the program compensates staff for time spent outside the regular school day and that the program is paying entrance fees for student activities such as Model UN.
Mullen described current programming across grades, including enrichment offerings such as crochet, poetry, middle‑school cheer, weightlifting sessions, a summer program, and an academic Olympics regional competition. She said K–5 staffing is currently short and asked for community help: “we would just really like to help find getting the word out to, your staff in both buildings as well as the community.”
The board thanked the presenters and acknowledged that new federal reporting requirements have increased administrative workload; administrators said they will continue to share updates and recruitment information with the board and community.
