Bill McDonough, principal of Eden Middle School and High School, introduced the district’s top 10 students at the March 16 board meeting and invited each student to state their college plans, intended major and a favorite course.
Students who spoke included Brandon Boycek, who said he hopes to study civil engineering and is considering Slippery Rock, UB or RIT; Haley Barrett, who said she will attend Mercyhurst University to study biochemistry; and Elijah Qi, who said he plans to attend the University of Rochester to major in statistics. Several students identified STEM classes, AP courses and construction-drafting or technology classes as their favorites. "I am very proud of what they have accomplished, and I'm excited to see what their future holds," McDonough said.
Board members praised the class’s academic record and extracurricular involvement, noting more than half of the senior class carries a GPA of 90 or higher and multiple students participate in musical and vocational programs. The presentation concluded with a plan for a group photograph and formal certificates for each student.
