Superintendent discusses pursuit of regional transportation hub and waiver options for zero‑emission bus transition

The superintendent told the board he and North Collins superintendent Scott Taylor met with Senator Galvin to explore potential state funds to help create a regional transportation hub to support the district’s required transition to zero‑emission buses. "We had that conversation because of the requirement to transition to 0 emission busing, and it would seem to make a lot of sense to two superintendents... that the infrastructure installation is significantly more cost effective," he said.

He also reported the state provides a waiver mechanism: districts have additional time before they must begin certain purchases and there are multi‑year waivers that may extend the timing of infrastructure needs — he described a two‑year waiver and said the overall 2035 fleet transition requirement remains but there is a measured pause to plan infrastructure such as charging stations and fire suppression. The superintendent said this buys the district time to develop plans and potential cooperative regional solutions. The board agreed to add an extra April meeting to accommodate BOCES budget timing and to continue exploring state funding options with their senator.
