Student liaisons highlight Science Olympiad finish, arts and Black History Month events

Student ex officio members gave updates from across the district. Jazkard Korn (Central and Memorial) reported that the Valley Stream Central Science Olympiad team placed eighth out of 41 teams in the regional tournament and that nearly 600 students earned honor-roll recognition last quarter.
"It is my honor to be here once again representing Valley Stream Central High School and Memorial Junior High School," Jazkard Korn said while summarizing academic and extracurricular highlights, including Black History Month programming and an upcoming blood drive.
Abigail Matthew (Blount) and Sarah Zafar (South) likewise highlighted club fairs, student awards, cultural events and athletics. Matthew noted the retirement of a longtime staff member, and Zafar discussed a new ID policy for after-school activities and preparations for performing-arts events.
