District outlines summer school, music and recreation calendar running July–August

The Valley Stream Central High School District presented its summer 2026 schedule during the board meeting, highlighting dates for summer school, regents exams and music and recreation programs. Presenter said, "It runs from July 13 to August 19."
Staff described a 7–12 summer school at Memorial staffed by Ms. Lucarsenari, Ms. Pearson and Ms. Costenco; regents exams are scheduled for Aug. 18–19 with a summer graduation on Aug. 19. The junior-high regents program will run July 13–Aug. 6 and Regents prep classes are scheduled Aug. 3–17. Counselors will meet with students at year end to prepare for summer placement.
The district also outlined a college-prep boot camp for rising seniors (an eight‑day program focused on applications and essay writing), an incoming grade‑7 two‑week bridge program in each building (tech, team building, STEM and restorative practices, partnered with Nassau BOCES), and a grades‑7–12 strength and conditioning program July 13–Aug. 13 coordinated by district athletics. Summer recreation will be held at all three high schools July 13–Aug. 20 (Mon–Thu evenings, 6–9 p.m.). Summer music begins Monday, July 6, with community band rehearsals at 7 p.m. on July 6, 13 and 20 and concerts in late July.
