District leaders updated the board on progress and emerging problems at the new school site, saying the project has made significant progress on interiors but that site conditions and damaged delivery materials have created a risk to full occupancy. Construction staff reported a problem in a parking area that appears to be caused by an uncovered stream and has engaged a geotechnical engineer; some mechanical materials arrived damaged and will need replacement.
District staff emphasized student safety and continuity of instruction while they seek firm dates for occupancy and final sign-offs: "We will make sure students are taken care of, during that time," staff said while describing contingency plans for academics, transportation, nutrition and staffing. The district said Plan A is still to open by Aug. 31 but that Plans B and C are being refined and will be submitted to the WDE for approval before public release.
