The La Center School District board on Nov. 19 approved formation of a SkillsUSA club at the high school to support construction and Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs.
Dorri Oldham moved to establish the club and Eric Lindberg seconded; the board approved the motion (Motion 24/25-20) unanimously. The minutes state the club will allow students to compete in framing, electrical, sheetrock and other related competitions and that participants will be subject to the same grade-check requirements as other extracurricular activities.
Administrators and the board framed the approval as support for hands-on skills development within CTE pathways and an extension of existing shop and construction programming.
