Board votes to remove old concession stand after weighing repair vs. demolition costs
Summary
Board members debated whether to convert an old concession stand to compliant storage (architect estimate ~$1,000) or demolish it (approx. $8,000). After discussing structural soundness, storage needs and landscaping, the board voted by show of hands to demolish it.

Dr. Farrelly presented options for the old concession stand behind the middle school: preliminary cost estimates suggested roughly $8,000 to demolish the structure, while the architect indicated bringing it to code as a storage facility could require about $1,000 in work plus paperwork to submit to New York State.
"I shared in terms of the approximate cost, about 8,000 or so. Our new architect evaluated it, and he indicated that with about 1000 dollars or so, right, that we could bring it to compliance with the states," Dr. Farrelly said. Board members questioned structural longevity and visibility on the site; some supported keeping the storage option, while others argued demolition would better match the planned renovations. The board took a show-of-hands vote and the chair announced the structure would be taken down.
Why it matters: the decision affects near-term construction sequencing, landscaping costs and available storage for maintenance and athletics. Board members asked the architect and maintenance staff to advise on long-term structural life and to return with any necessary follow-up work or landscape plans for the cleared area.
